Why Ballroom Dancing Is Good Exercise For You

By Jenni Snook

The following will explain why ballroom dancing has now the become the preferred way to get good exercise among many people. It's not just a phenomenon in America, it's a worldwide craze.

If you've watched Dancing With The Stars, one thing you are sure to have noticed is how well-toned every dancer's body was. Oh yes, one got caught up with all the pizzas that was built around the dancing in the show, the comments, the asides, the costumes but it was the bodies that held your attention and the way they moved and the way they looked. No spare flesh to be seen anywhere, just sleek, perfectly toned and shaped arms, legs, abs. One reason is that ballroom dancing is really one of the best workouts there is.

There are many of us that are not dancers, however, the great about ballroom dancing is that it is slow and romantic, and can be performed on a floor with low lights. The best dancers tell a story by dancing. At first, it will be hard to keep with the perfect timing and physique needed for dancing, but the number of twists and turns you get is more than even the most rigorous aerobics class.

Ballroom dancing is a good alternative to the gym if you are thinking of a bit more strenuous form of exercise. At a gym somehow you tend to notice just how good and toned everyone else looks and it could give you a complex if you have a lot of excess weight to shed. At a dance class however, the emphasis is on the moves rather than the exercise. It's also fun and you can go do it as a couple. It's great if you haven't found a fun way to exercise, you should go check it out.

More calories can be burnt during a ballroom dancing session that a gym session, normally between 200 and 400 calories. However, it all depends on the type of dance and the high energy dances can burn even more energy.

Keep in mind that in ballroom dancing you exercise every part of your body at the same time unlike what you do at the gym where the focus is only on particular parts. No wonder, professional dancers looked so good overall and not just in a particular body part.

What separates ballroom dancing from other forms of exercise is that it has to be done with a partner which can be your lover or another person with whom you can paired up with. You may even make great friendships with the people in your class which last longer than the classes themselves. All you have to do is choose ballroom dancing as a good form of exercise!
