Making An Income From Blogging

by Alan Edmunds

There are two major types of business models that entrepreneurs use to make money blogging. The first and most common way to turn a blog into a profit making machine is to sell advertising to different companies and brands who want to reach that blog's readers.

The second kind of money making blog is one that helps a single brand improve its image by creating positive associations between the blog and the product in the mind of consumers. Both kinds of blogs can make a lot of money, especially if the creator has a keen mind for marketing.

If the purpose of your blogging is to sell advertisements, there are a couple of ways to go about the process of getting sponsors and advertisers. You can get someone else to do the work for you or you can do all of the work on your own.

Within the first group, many people make money blogging by selling space through Google's AdSense program. The advantages of this program are numerous, as it requires very little effort on the part of the blogger or webmaster to begin raking in profits.

Many, however, are making less money than they thought through the use of this method.

When you try to sell ads to companies directly, it can take a fair bit of time but it is often a lucrative choice. If you have industry contacts, make those contacts and see if you can get some of the companies to advertise on the web.

People who have a strong background in sales and are experienced at pitching proposals can make quite a bit of money by renting blog space to interested companies.

The biggest problem with this method is that you need already to have a sizeable number of readers in order to convince companies to take the bait.

As blogging becomes more lucrative, there will be many businesses eager to advertise on your space. Some companies are even using the blog to present what adds up to being a friendly face for the company.

Companies and businesses will often employ a professional blogger to write about their company and will get people excited about their products.

There have been several established bloggers who have become employed by such companies and who have earned a lot of money blogging for the corporate world.

Choosing a free blogging site can feel overwhelming because there are so many options. There are several large free blog-hosting sites that dominate the blogosphere, but there are also smaller sites.

Whether you decide to join up with an established site like blogger or whether you choose to sign on with a relatively new venture depends on what your priorities are.

The best reason to choose a site over others is its reliability. Larger sites take precedence in that category. When you choose from a larger site, you can be assured that the site wont crash or disappear in a heartbeat, leaving you high and dry.

A company that has set up a big site tends to have more researchers and fewer technical glitches.

Some bloggers feel, however, that this isnt much of a selling point.

Those who choose a smaller, more select site, in part because they enjoy working for the underdog of the bunch. Such a blogger casts his choice for David against the mighty Goliath.
