Alternative After-Prom Ideas

by Jennifer Loch

For some teens, the common idea that prom night has to include underage drinking and sex isn't appealing. If this describes you, here are some fun and safe after-prom activity ideas:

Dinner: It's a good idea to make reservations way in advance of prom night. Yours is probably not the only prom in town that night and it's no fun to wait around for a table. Since you are already dressed fancy you might as well go to a fancy restaurant even if your budget only allows dessert or appetizers. On the other hand, it can also be fun to show off by being way overdressed at a fast food restaurant or all-night diner.

An Activity: Some fun things to do after prom include going bowling, playing miniature golf, seeing a movie, or going to a comedy club.

After-Party: A fun and cheap way to keep partying after prom is to have an after-party at yours or a friend's house. If you tell the parents that you want a safe alternative to the post-prom hotel bash they will fall over each other offering their homes for your small get together. If they have a big TV, game room, or pool, ask for private use that night, which means the family will be home but they promise to make sure to leave you alone. Ask the parents to agree to stay up as long as you guys do. This makes it easier for your friends to get permission to attend from their parents. Ask everyone to bring snacks, drinks, movies, and games.

Prom Sunday: Some people like to wear their prom attire to church on the Sunday after prom. It makes the fun of prom last; girls get to show their pretty dress and feel glamorous one more time. Guys usually rent a tux and it isn't due back until Monday so they can get their money's worth by wearing it one more time. Hopefully you chose prom attire that you can feel comfortable wearing to church! If you have a corsage or boutonniere, take it off after prom and put it in the fridge so it will be fresh enough to wear to church. If your date goes to church with you it will be even more fun.

With a little bit of planning and creativity you can keep the fun rolling strong after prom without doing anything to compromise your beliefs.
