A Guide To Healthy Foods

By Keith Woolley

There is an old African saying that goes food is food. It may not make any sense when read as is, but when the emphasis is placed on the fact that we not only eat for the fun of it, but for the sake of our health and survival, it makes perfect sense. Food is for our natural health. We eat to live. But what exactly do we put in our plates to qualify as food? Is it all considered healthy? For example, I love junk food. Does it count? Provided you space it out, my gorgeous doctor says. Eat lots of fruits too. Then she goes on to say the Apple a day proverb that she always tells. What is there to know about proper eating habits? Heres how:

Fruits - The doctors so right. Apples have vitamin C, which aids the body in absorbing iron, minerals and fiber. So do many other fruits. Essentially, eating two rations of any kind of fruit is advised.

Vegetables - You may be well aware of the strength possessed by Popeye the sailor every time he pops open a can of spinach and eats it. Spinach contains an entire combination of Vitamins A, B6 and C, riboflavin, calcium, magnesium and iron. Though it doesn't give you muscle, you can be assured of healthy skin, bones and hair.

Grains - Rice has been recognized worldwide as the most eaten grain and tell me, who doesn't love rice? On the nutritionists food pyramid, its positioned at the bottom along with other grains such as wheat and oats which we rarely eat but we eat them after processing through cereal and pasta. The major merit of grains is they can be incorporated in any meal at any time of the day.

Meats and Nuts - Who can resist meat, white or red irrespective of their age? Though white meat is regarded as being more expensive, it contains a milder serving of protein, glycogen and myoglobin. Is most common sources are seafood and poultry and for those with adventurous appetites, reptiles. Beef, mutton, veal, are classified as red meat and the lustful eater can enjoy game meat such as gazelle and zebra meat. Nuts such as macadamia nuts, peanuts, cashew nuts and almonds are considered to be a great source of energy and roughage. They are totally irresistible and can be eaten as snacks anytime.o, the next time you eat, make sure that you are no just eating food, but have these four classes into consideration.
