Have online classifieds killed newspaper classifieds?

by Ricki Lane

Whether looking to sell an item or attempting to provide a service to the public, the Internet and it's online classifieds are fast becoming a great means to get the word out there for your small business or personal sales. Unlike the old fashion newspapers or penny savers, posting online is far superior for many reasons, such as constantly updated information, national and worldwide exposure and the ability to post for free. All are factors that can make your item sell faster or business soar.

Online classifieds unlike the newspaper classifieds can be easily updated on a daily basis. So, if you want to tweak your ad it can usually be done in a matter of minutes. For instance if you need to change the price of the item, do to competition you can do it. Also if you need to change the description of your item you can just log onto the site and change the information to make the item more appealing to those out there browsing. If you are providing a service to others you can repost the ad daily to allow it to be seen first by potential customers, making your product basically a featured product.

The ability to be seen by a broader audience is a huge factor in the battle of newspapers versus the web. Tons of people are on their computers on a daily basis and constantly plugging words into their search engine, it would benefit you greatly if your business popped up before their eyes. Newspapers only touch the base that is with in their circulation and newsstands.

Probably the best feature of posting online is that you can usually find a website that does not charge a fee to post where as newspapers can be quite expensive to advertise with and it is normally locked in there with out change for the week. If it is locked people may still call you about the ad long after the product or job is closed.

The Internet is a great world that has been able to make the business world easier to compete in. Using the Internets ads are a superb way to get your product promoted or your service advertise for next to nothing on most sites. As most of us have grown up fans of the newspapers they are great for news and the funnies, but not always great for small ads in this fast moving world of today. Posting online is a much better way to get in the face of those who need your attention.
