Key to Making Money With Adobe Photoshop

By David Peters

While Adobe Photoshop is worth it, this popular program comes with quite a price! I've put together 5 ways that you can generate money through Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as a business venture, for extra spending money or even to repay yourself for the program.

1. Offer a Photo Restoration Service. I'm sure just about everyone has a photo or two that hasn't stood the test of time all that well, especially really old ones. Using the Healing Brush, Spot Healing Brush, and Patch tools, you can make old or damaged photos look like new again.

2. Become a Photograph Doctor. No matter the ailment, from "red eye", "pet eye", poor exposure, or "finger over the lens syndrome" Photoshop can make over a ruined image into a faultless one. Photoshop can also change a color photograph over to look like a black and white one, or color tint a black and white one to make it color. There will always be plenty of "sick patients" to make better.

3. Design Greetings Cards. Making custom greeting cards is easier than ever with the photo enhancement and graphic design abilities of Photoshop. Enhance photos, transform them into drawings or paintings, blend photos for funny cards to name just a few of the endless possibilities. Holidays, events and other special occasions are all taken care of, even the card to say hello is covered. Card blanks and their envelopes can be found through specialist suppliers locally or online.

4. Design T-shirts. Ever seen something and thought "that would look great on a T-shirt"? Well, you're not the only one! With Photoshop you can make it a reality. You can get transfers from stationery shops, and plain, cotton T-shirts can be purchased from low cost suppliers and even some supermarkets.

5. Web Design. This skill is more sought after than ever. All types of people and businesses seek this ability no matter the depth of the project. Some might need an entire web site designed, others simply site optimization, but Photoshop can have these demands met easily. Take commissions from a custom project or even create generic templates for others to purchase and download from your site to customize themselves.

Of course, you may need to get some extra equipment -- like a colour printer, scanner, and digital camera -- but you can usually pick this type of equipment up inexpensively on eBay or other websites. A DVD of royalty free images is also a must -- although check the terms and conditions to make sure you're allowed to sell products derived from them.

Getting the word out is better than any written advertisement. Ask friends, family, co-workers and other contacts if they or anyone else they know are in need of your services. You can even provide a portfolio review for retailers and offer them commissions on any work they send your direction.
