By Alexander Malroy

Airsoft games have seen a tremendous growth in the fan base and no wonder. The demand of these replica guns have seen a surge and the companies producing the guns have also increased over time.

The most popular among all the breeds is the Thompson M1A1 rifle. It does not only have a high power look but also has the feel of the real guns that makes the gun an ideal choice among the fans. Keeping in lines with the original guns, the Airsoft Thompson have a solid metal body that gives the guns the required weight so that the users can feel that the gun is a real one.

Loading the M1A1 Airsoft rifle is the simplest of matters. To change a magazine, simply feel for the C shaped lever on the left side of the gun, just above the trigger. Pressing up on the lever releases the magazine and it is pulled free with the other hand. After pouring in the pellets and priming, the magazine is pushed into place until it clicks.

Pressing the lever releases the magazine and waits to be pulled out. Now, the next step is to pour the pellets and prim the magazine and then push it back in the place and listen to the click. Once it clicks the magazine is back in place to be used. There is an operating rod on the right of the gun. A simple pulling of the rod reloads the gun and makes it ready for firing. The magazine can hold up to 60 pellets of which only 54 are usable.

There are two switches placed right above the C shaped lever used for releasing the magazine are two small switches which are safety and automatic switches. The front switch is for automatic control and the rear switch is for safety. The users have easy access to accuracy control. They can quickly make accuracy adjustments.

There is a hop-up control located at the ejection point. There is a small, notched wheel black in color which can be used by the users for faster adjustments. The Hop-up is used for adjusting the pellets back spin that allows straighter vertical flight. There is a small peep-sight which can be used by the users for aiming.

Once the rifle is loaded and the aiming mechanisms set, the M1A1 provides the performance needed in a gun fight. The rifle claims pellet speeds at 280 fps for .20g pellets though tests have shown the actual speed can be as high as 350 fps. At .12g pellets, the velocity increases to an astounding 420fps. The gun is also incredibly accurate, scoring groupings at 7 inches on fully automatic and 2.5 inches on semi auto, both with the 0.20g pellets.

The ease of operation, ease in aiming, and superb power and accuracy make the Thompson M1A1 a good rifle for Airsoft games. When the features of the rifle are coupled with its authentic look and feel, it is easy to see why the M1A1 is a popular choice. Users can expect to perform well with this rifle while experiencing the closest thing to real combat.
