Can Water Help to Lose Weight?

By Mary Bush

Weight loss happens when you burn more calories than you consume. So how can water help to lose weight?

For one thing water contains zero calories, so you can drink as much water as you like without gaining any weight. Water also flushes out your system, which helps with your overall weight loss plan. Water is an all natural substance that is vital to all bodily functions including metabolism and brain function.

Eight or ten, 8 ounce glasses of cold, fresh water per day will have a very positive effect on your weight loss efforts.

Many people don't like the taste of their local tap water, so buying spring water or bottled water may be an alternative to the tap.

Sugary drinks like soda, fruit juice with added sugars, and alcoholic drinks like beer and wine should be avoided as they can contain anywhere from 100 to 350 calories per serving. Have a tall, cold glass of water instead.

Remember that water is never a substitute for food. If you consume less than 1000 to 1500 calorie per day, your metabolism will slow to a crawl making your body burn even fewer calories and slow down your weight loss efforts.

Adding more water to your diet is very beneficial to your overall weight loss plan but be sure to eat plenty of nutritious foods throughout the day and get at least 30 minutes of light exercise at least 4 times a week.

It really is simple to lose weight. Eat 4 or 5 small nutritious meals each day, get plenty of light exercise, and drink more water. Can water help to lose weight? You bet it can.
