Online Testing For Dyslexia

by Ryan Chesson

Have you been considering the possibility that you may have dyslexia. The first step to finding out is with some simple online screening tests. These test are easy to take and are far cheaper than going straight to a professional. Here we will discuss your options concerning testing for dyslexia.

The online options for dyslexia testing are meant for adults and not for children. If you have concerns that your child may have dyslexia the best option is to request that their school will have them tested.

If you are an adult though you will have to pay someone to receive testing for dyslexia. These tests can be very expensive so it is best to do a little screening online first. There are two basic types of online dyslexia tests that you can take.

The basic checklist is the first type of online dyslexia test that you can take. These tests can usually be taken for free at a variety of websites. The draw back of this type of test is that it is just a checklist. By nature this type of screening is highly inaccurate.

There are some more comprehensive tests available online known as performance based exams. These use a large database of information and compare the results of your exam with this information to determine if you are showing signs of dyslexia. While far more accurate you will have to pay a fee to take this type of exam.

It is the database of information that makes the performance based exams more beneficial than the checklist type exams. They use this database to compare your performance against that of others to identify if you are showing signs of dyslexia.

It has been suggested by recent studies that as many as 90% of adult Americans that suffer from dyslexia are unaware of the condition. There is very little testing for dyslexia done for school age kids so a large portion of the cases are missed.

It should be noted as well that dyslexia does not affect someone's intelligence. It does affect their literacy abilities though. There have been many very successful and famous people to have dyslexia over the years.
