Take Some Important Steps and Achieve Your Goals!

by April Ladrey

Setting goals gives you short-term and long-term motivation. Having well thought out goals helps you set focus on the acquisition of required knowledge and helps you to plan and organize your resources and your time so that you can get the best out of your life. The basics of goal setting will involve deciding what you really want to do with your personal life and what short term and long term goals you need to achieve it.

When you begin to set your goals, here are five points to keep in mind:

1. Your attitude can be a maker or breaker of your goals. Do you automatically create self-imposed limitations on yourself? Are you able to take a step back and see that you do this? Are you a reactive or proactive type of person when faced with a challenge? Think about how you address problems in your life and see if changes need to be made now before you can begin to achieve your goals.

2. Another important skill you need is proper time management. If you truly want to reach any goal, then you have to use your time wisely. Time management is a attribute that you can develop with time and good habits. Once you learn how to use it to your advantage, you will be able to reach any goal you can envision.

3. A third quality needed to be able to reach your goals is education. This means actual school education, specialized training, or other skills that may be necessary to reach your goal. If your goal is to be a doctor, then you will have to have a certain type of education to get to that point. The same is true with smaller goals as well.

4. Your goals are going to be important to your closest family and friends. You will need their support to succeed and you need to let them know you expect their support. Achieving your goals will effect them in some ways, so it is only right that you let them know what your plans are.

5. You will next need a plan of action. Action is the most important step in achieving your goals, but you cannot neglect any of the above mentioned points. Take your goal and split it into time frames moving from a plan set in years to a plan set in weeks. This will be your guide as you reach your weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly goals. Think what you could achieve just by sticking to your plan!

These five steps will lead you to the point where you can now take action! Action is what will actually get you to where you want to go. Make a nightly list of what you want to accomplish the next day that corresponds to your plan. Review your lists daily and weekly, and set a time where you consistently review where you are at. Tweak what you need to. Make goal setting a habit and you will achieve anything you put your mind to!
