Internet access is obtained by subscribing to internet service through a local provider. If you do not have access from a computer at home, you can often gain inexpensive (or even free) access at a friendas house, work, or your local library. Before you begin, obtain permission for your search for county death records. Follow the same procedures if you conduct other searches, such as those for birth or marriage records.

Information regarding the deceased is the second element in your search for county death records. Prepare for your search by gathering the personas name, dates of birth and death, names of family members, information about any marriages, and any information on the personas profession. It is also important to know the name of the state and/or county in which the deceased passed away.

The success of your search often depends on how much information you have when you begin. Having a large pool of facts will help if you find yourself searching through a collection of records about people with the same name. Having more details about your subject will help you refine your results and ultimately find the correct records.

The third element in your online search for county death records is using one or more search engines to gather the information you want. You can typically begin by using a search engine such as Google, Yahoo, or Dogpile. Enter your search terms into the search field to retrieve a list of relevant web sites on which you can search for the specific record you are seeking.

There are general privately operated website such as Ancestry.com that can provide some information but requires a subscription. Typically it is better and more reliable to go to a government sponsored/created website that contains the databases of death indexes than to use a private site. One caveat to that being that often newspapers can provide reliable information in their obituary databases regarding county death records.

Conducting research on county death indexes is easy if you have the three necessary elements. These elements: internet access, plenty of information about the deceased, and a way to find those web sites that might contain the desired information, are essential to your search and your success.

Having all three elements in place before you begin your search will probably make your search for county birth, death, marriage, and/or divorce records easier. If you do not have any of the necessary elements, your search could take longer. Searching through a collection of results takes time, so be prepared the next time you conduct a search of this kind.
