The paintings and trademark strong brushwork of Vincent Willem van Gogh are so well known and so widely recognized as to be iconic. In his canvas Irises, Saint-Remy, van Gogh shows us a picturesque planting of irises in a garden. A solitary white flower seems incandescent in contrast to the saturated blues of the other blooms. The Starry Night, perhaps van Gogh's masterpiece, is another intense and dramatic image. The night sky above a village is ablaze with gyrating, roiling stars and an enormous full moon. It is remarkable that so vivid an image was painted completely by memory by van Gogh. The drama and majesty of these paintings have now come alive as tapestry wall hangings for the home.
Another famous van Gogh image is Bedroom in Arles. Van Gogh painted a view of his bedroom at the Yellow House in Arles, France. It shows a mostly unadorned chamber, with bed, table and chairs. However, because the room is shaped like a trapezoid, van Gogh lets us see the ordinary with a unique perspective. In fact, van Gogh found this prospect so interesting that he painted it three time. The Bedroom tapestry, one of Decor4u.com's fine tapestries from Belgium, is a recreation of the third version. The high quality weaving of these tapestries have preserved all of the intense color and bold style for which van Gogh is known.
One of the most prominent and famous painters of the Art Nouveau movement was Austrian Gustav Klimt. He is perhaps most well known for his painting, The Kiss. A man and a woman enfold one another, their limbs entwined. They appear to become one with one another as well as with the field of flowers that surround them. Klimt had recently returned from Italy and was inspired by the famous mosaics he saw there to start using gold leaf in his own paintings. Hence his Golden Phase during which The Kiss was produced. This amazing tapestry, from Decor4u.com's collection of tapestries from Europe, is woven with gold threads to more fully realize Klimt's vision.
In the time that it was created, much of Klimt's work was considered controversial. Consider Lady with Fan. We are shown a seemingly private moment in a woman's day. Her hair is loose, her robe slips carelessly off one shoulder, she seems lost in thought. She is not shown in her room or any other interior. She is set against a background of Art Noveau motifs: birds, flowers, leaves, vines. The makers of this decorative tapestry have maintained the brilliance of the colors and forms of the original canvas.
Claude Monet is another world famous artist and founder of the Impressionist school of painting. Indeed, the movement takes its name from his painting Impression, Soleil Levant (Impression, Sunrise). Following the Impressionist creed that art take its inspiration from the natural world, Monet found many subjects for his paintings at his famous gardens at Giverny. In Monet's Irises, we see a grouping of these tall graceful flowers against a soft summer sky. The brush strokes give a sense of movement to the irises, so that the petals and foliage seem to be swaying in the breeze. The exquisite detail in Monet's Iris wall hanging allows all this to be seen, down to Monet's bold signature.
Another renowned artist of the French Impressionist school is Pierre-August Renoir. Over the course of his career, he painted thousands of paintings. Some are among the best know images in art and have commanded record breaking prices. A massively talented painter, he was perhaps most adept at creating honest and intimate portraits of people. Take, for example, his painting Dance at Bougival. A young couple is shown enjoying a dance, celebrating life's small but intense pleasures. Renoir's masterly technique in employing color, light and shadow elevates this charming yet simple scene to something more refined. Dance at Bougival Wall Art at Decor4u.com lets you own a true masterpiece for your home.
French painter Paul Ranson was a member and creative leader of a group of artist calling themselves Les Nabis (the prophets). This post-Impressionist avant-garde school of art believed that art could be a blending of both the symbolic and representational. It was this set of beliefs and way of looking at art that would pave the way for the abstract and non-representational art movements. This belief is exemplified in Ranson's Apple Tree with Red Fruit. It is representational in the sense that it is a painting of an apple tree in a natural setting. However, closer inspection shows that the branches of the trees resemble human limbs, adding a symbolic element. Ranson's brilliant use of color comes to life in the form of tapestry art.
The works of contemporary artists is represented in Decor4u.com's by Famous Artists wall tapestries. Bunny Oliver, a working American Impressionist, has had the opportunity to study with many other famous Impressionists in the United States. She has chosen to paint many still life canvases, seeking to express the beauty that can be found in the exploration of commonplace objects. Her painting, Poppies Galore, is a case in point. A bunch of vibrant orange-red poppies tumble from a colorful porcelain vase seeming to have a life of their own. In the tapestry Poppies Galore by Bunny Oliver the exciting colors and forms of the original canvas achieve new intensity.
